Completing your application

This page contains everything you need to know to apply for your grant, please read it carefully before moving on to the application form.

Completing the application form itself should take less than 15 minutes, but there is some information you will need to gather beforehand to ensure you are able to complete the form with the data we need to process your application.

The information you’ll need

There are four main sections to the application form and we need you to complete them with accurate, up-to-date information so that we can process your grant application as quickly as possible. Click the boxes below to find out what you’ll need:

Contact details

We just need to know the legal name of the business (Limited Company name and trading name (if used) or the trading name if a sole trader) and the address where the business is based. We also need the contact details of the person who will be dealing with the grant application, project and claim.

Business Information

This section asks for basic financial information about your business including the month your financial year ends, the date of your first sale and whether your income per year and balance sheet value are less than 2, 10 or 50 million Euro.

We also need to know the number of ‘Full Time Equivalent’ members of staff – this is the number of people of people ‘equivalent’ to full time. For example, if you employ one person on a 36 hour per week contract and one on an 18 hour contract, you would have 1.5 FTE Staff.

If your business is part of a group (it is owned by, or owns, another company), we’ll need to know the total number of people employed by the group, whether the total turnover is more than €50M and the balance sheet value more than €43M.  If you’ve invested in R&D, we’ll need to know what the total spend was in your last full financial year.

Finance and Projections

This section is looking at the basic financial and staffing data for your business. This is the most complex part of the application form and you might need to speak to your accountant to get this information.

In each section the data we ask for is split into three time periods – last financial year, current financial year and next financial year – and it’s important that you know what we mean by this.  As an example, if your month of financial year end is in March, the year from April 20 to March 2021 is your ‘last’ financial year and we’d need actual figures for that period (if your year end has recently past and final figures are not yet available, we can accept your accurate forecasts or management account information here). April 2021 to March 2022 would be the ‘current’ year – we’d need realistic figures based on your trade since April and what you’ve projected for the rest of the year. Your ‘next’ financial year will be April 2022 to March 2023 – we’d need estimates based on previous years and your outlook for the business.

We’ll need three figures (last, current and next year) for the following sections:

  • Turnover
  • Net Profit (before tax)
  • Depreciation
  • Total Wage Costs
  • Average number of Male FTE employees
  • Average number of Female FTE employees.

We also need to know roughly what percentage of your income is from the general public, other businesses and elsewhere and approximately what percentage of your income is generated in the North East, the rest of the UK and internationally.

Project description and previous funding

We need to understand what project you’d like to undertake with the funding and also your approximate budget – we don’t need a lot of detail, just a brief overview.

If you’ve had previous ‘State Aid’ support in the past three years, we also need to know which organisation provided the funding (for example NBSL), what the funding was used for (a new website, attending a Masterclass, HR consultancy, etc), the amount you received and the date you received it. You should have received a letter detailing this information from the organisation that provided the grant.

Please note: Most fields on the form are ‘required’ (you will not be able to submit the form without completing them), but if you are absolutely unable to provide that piece of data, please enter N/A, submit the form and we will contact you – please note that this will delay the processing of your application.

Do you have everything?

You should be able to get most of the information from your own financial records, but it’s worth spending a little time to make sure you have all of the information to complete the form. If you have all of the information listed above and are ready to apply, please click the button below to open the application form.
